Don't Drink & Drive, You'll Spill On The Seats.

The previous post generated a couple e-mails from friends asking me how to make a " '57 Chevy With Hawaii Plates". I'm not sure how they made these wicked little bombshells at Lehr's Greenhouse back in the day but according to W. Healy at the Houston Press, this is how you'll get 'em now-a-days;

1 ounce Southern Comfort whiskey

1 ounce Amaretto liqueur

1 ounce Grand Marnier liqueur

Splash of cranberry juice

Splash of pineapple juice

Mix ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into shot glass (for those of you not wearing a skirt) or serve on the rocks.

Administered as a shot, these things go down pretty easy. On the rocks, they're more of a chick drink in my opinion, so I would recommend the following modifications to give this Chevy a little more torque. First lose the liqueurs and fruit juices; too sweet and caloric. Next upgrade the shot glass to a large tumbler and insert no more than two clear, commercial grade ice cubes. Finally, switch the Southern Comfort to Jim Beam and overfill the glass so you get a good extra 1/2 ounce sip before you even start. Now you've got a '57 Chevy with Hawaiian plates designed by a guy who actually drives one. Enjoy.

I'll have a " '57 Chevy With Hawaii Plates" please...

My first car (also my youngest sister's first car), this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air has been sitting in our barn for over thirty years. We took it down to A & M this spring to get rid of some of the Hawaii rust and while there I brought down the power plant that came with our deuce. We'll rebuild our John Joseph built 350 one of these days, but in the meantime this thing sounds healthy enough for some fun.



Hawaii built by my Dad and I while I was in high school, this thing should be back in Kailua in the not too distant future. Big ups to Mark Spurlock for producing this hot rod porn.
