American Girl - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 1976

This song was an instant classic. Just one of those records that jumped out of the radio and forced your foot all the way down on the accelerator. Completely unique yet still reminiscent of Gene Clark and The Byrds with it's Rickenbackers ringing like a bell, and Tom Petty's pleading vocals starting with that way cool 'Chuh'. I love this song.
